If you are looking for an affordable but Westernized experience in Asia, Bali Indonesia is the place for you. This small island located in southern Indonesia has been a hot spot for people around the world for decades. And it’s no wonder that everyone loves Bali: the local cuisine is to die for, and transportation/accommodation is affordable for any age, not to mention the local Balinese people are so friendly and kind to all. Enjoy sipping your coconut overlooking a spectacular sunset!
Whenever I travel to a new country, I tend not to do a ton of research or look at too many of the highlight sights online, just because I want to be genuinely surprised at the beautiful scenery. I really had no expectations going into Bali, just what I had seen on Instagram so I was really excited to see it in person. AND WOW was I blown away by the piercing blue water and how beautiful the surrounding nature was!
When I first met my now best friend in German school back in 2022, we had hit it off and both shared a passion for traveling… and ever since we had been talking about taking a trip to Bali together. Traveling to Bali, Indonesia was my first time in Asia! Knowing this was my first trip to a new continent, I was so excited and operating on pure adrenaline for our whole trip.
All my friend and I took were our hiking backpacks and a lot of fun energy. This led us to meet so many amazing friends and other backpackers along the way. We wanted to have a balanced trip of both touristy and non-touristy activities. We visited Kuta, Nusa Penida, Kelingking Beach, Diamond Beach, and rice fields in Ubud, ate very tasty Balinese food, and met friendly local Balinese people.
Our first stop was in Kuta just because it is the nearest city to the airport. Then we traveled to Nusa Penida for 4 days where we explored the famous beaches. From Nusa Penida, we went to Ubud where we saw monkeys, drove our first scooter and ate tasty traditional balinese dishes. Uluwatu was next on our list. We wanted to see where the best surf in Bali was and also check out the cute surfers too! Our last stop was in Canggu where we stayed in (what I believe the best hostel i’ve ever seen… Dip and Dose) We partied our hearts out and relaxed by the beach. What a great way to end our 2.5 weeks together in Bali.
Happy traveling,
Kristy
