Hungary was the second place we visited during our sixth month travel adventure in 2024! We were so excited to get to know what this country was all about. To get a well-rounded experience, we decided to split our time in both the city and the countryside.
We met up with Kristy’s best friend from German School, Tanya, in Budapest! For transportation, we took the public bus (100E bus) to and from the airport. It was a 30 minute drive for 6 Euros! Our Air BnB was in the heart of town (close to Városháza Park) and within walking distance to many key areas! We were able to cover a fair amount of territory in the city and eat a lot of traditional food.

BUDAPEST RECS
- Hike up to Citadel Lookout for the most beautiful view of the city!
- Eat chimney cakes (Kürtoskalács) on Váci Utica Street (these were only 3 Euros!)Type in Chimney Cake Shop near this street on Google Maps and you will find it! Noted to be the cheapest in the city and not lacking in quality at all.
- Eat Lángos!! This is a traditional Hungarian dish made of fried dough, sour cream, and mozzarella cheese. Most places allow you to add more toppings (grilled onions/ veggies, sausage, etc), but this is just the most basic one! You will find many shops in town selling these. We loved the one right by our Air BnB called Lángos Papi!
- Visit the Parliament Building (Országház) at night!! This is going to be one of the most spectacular buildings you will ever see!
- Visit the Central Market Hall. This place has lots of knick-knacks, fresh produce and treats, and any souvenir you would want to bring home!
- Visit the Fisherman’s Bastion. This is another historical site, with beautiful views of Budapest! We walked here, but you can also take a taxi.
- Try Goulash!! This is a very traditional Hungarian dish. It is not vegetarian, so sorry for all of you out there. On a cold day, this soup is like a nice stew that warms and fills you right up.
- Get Brunch at Kaptafa Brunch!! It’s not traditional Hungarian food, but they know what they’re doing! We had the best French toast, 10/10 recommend
