Whether you want a quality cup of coffee or a cozy place to read your book, these 5 cafés in Boston and Medford were my go-to. Let me know what you think!
- Tradesman Coffee Shop and Lounge in the Financial District
This place was my absolute favorite! It is such a cozy and warm environment. I would come here ALL the time for a good cup of coffee and just read or do work. They also have a cocktail bar that opens at night during the week! The only downside is that the café can be very busy, especially on weekends. It has a very industrial/ chic vibe, with super edgy decorations and chandeliers. They are known for their fun, creative croissants- usually ranging from red velvet, tiramisu, cotton candy, strawberry… I know right?! This place is such a vibe and their coffee is on point. If you live in/ near downtown, definitely check it out! It’s not far (5-10 minute walk) from Blue/ Green line T stops. Overall, would give it a 9/10.

- Tamper in Medford
Okay, this is some of the best coffee I have had in the Boston Area and we just got iced almond milk lattes. Their espresso and coffee makers were top-notch, and you can certainly taste the quality. FYI they don’t have any artificial flavorings, we tried to get vanilla syrup, but honestly we didn’t even miss it. Their breakfast sandwiches are also made fresh to order (not frozen or packaged), which we love. The sausage is perfectly sweet/ salty, so dang delish! The style of the café is more modern and minimalist. It attracts Tufts students for some homework, or locals in town stopping by for some good coffee. If you’re taking public transportation, it’s not far (5 min walk) from the nearest Green Line station. Overall rating 9/10.
340 Boston Ave. Medford MA 02155
Hours: Monday – Friday 7:30am – 6pm, Saturday & Sunday 9am – 2pm
- Caffé Vittoria in the North End
This place has the BEST ambiance, especially at night. Tons of seating so you don’t have to wait around! Their coffee is delicious, great espresso. They also have some of the best specialty drinks in the North End. You also can’t go wrong with any of their dessert options! The only downside is that this place is cash only, but there are plenty of ATMs nearby. Overall rating 8.5/10
290-296 Hanover St. Boston, MA 02113
Hours: 8am – 12am
- Café Amalfi in the North End
I loved this place mainly because it’s so close to the Harbor Walk! Pretty good tasting coffee too. We used to always grab a coffee and walk alongside the beautiful harbor/ wharf. If you want to stay and chill, they have both indoor and outdoor seating! I would usually get a cold brew with oat or almond milk or a mocha latte. They also sell breakfast sandwiches, pastries, grab-and-go items, and packaged snacks (granola bars/ chips, etc.). Overall rating 8/10.
5 Battery Wharf Boston, MA 02109
Hours: Monday – Thursday 7am – 4pm, Friday- Sunday 7am – 5pm
- Third Cliff Bakery in Jamaica Plain
So their coconut latte is one of the best coffees I have ever tried in Boston. It’s so dang creamy and the perfect blend of espresso and coconut flavors. I’m not sure if this is seasonal, so I would call before hand! They are well known for their baked goods, but I have only ever tried their kimchi cheddar croissant. It has great cheddar flavor, but lacking in the tangy/ sour kimchi flavor. The café is a bit small and there’s not a lot of room to sit down. So, I definitely wouldn’t recommend coming here for a study sesh! If you’re taking public transportation to come here, it’s a bit of a hike, which makes it tough. It was about a 15-minute walk from the nearest Orange Line T stop. Overall, 7/10, mainly for the coconut latte which was a 12/10.
